Anita Larson Mickelson ’90 has been teaching English-As-A-Second-Language through the Office of Adult Education, Black Hawk College, Rock Island (IL) campus, since January 2009. The vast majority of the students are refugees, primarily from Burma, Nepal, several African countries and, most recently, Iraq. Anita teaches “Level One”, in which most of the students have had little formal education in their native countries.
