Title: Director, civic affairs
Company: Target Corp.
Age: 35
When Mike Logan joined Target Corp.’s government affairs team in June 1998, the fledgling department was focused primarily on issues at the federal level and in few key states where it had a large presence. Now the retailer has a robust political presence at the federal level and in all 49 states where it does business.
Over the past 12 years, Logan has helped shape that evolution while serving in a variety of roles within Target’s government and civic affairs department. He has managed legislative, regulatory and electoral affairs; analyzed and prioritized key legislation and regulation to implement lobbying strategies; directed Target’s political action committees; and led internal and external voter education efforts. He also led negotiations with Hennepin County regarding the county’s investment in the $1.75 billion Target Northern Campus in Brooklyn Park.
In his role as director of civic affairs, Logan manages Target’s relationships with public policy organizations and other key influencers to collaborate on market issues. He also works to inform and engage Target employees on public policy issues and build the retailer’s “civic brand” outside the company, especially at home in the Twin Cities.
