Azra graduated with a masters of science in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012. She has lived in Chicago ever since. After working as a reporter and editor, she transitioned to work in public policy. She is currently the policy coordinator at Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, a nonprofit that advocates for treatment and case management as an alternative to incarceration for people with mental health/substance use disorders. She was also recently appointed communications director of Traffick Free, a volunteer-run nonprofit making significant strides to equip Chicago with tools and programs that help combat human trafficking. One of the things she misses most about GAC is the robust music department, but she still plays the piano and sings in a large mixed chorus, both of which make her very nostalgic!
