Christine Askham ’09 was chosen by the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation as a member of its 2015 cohort of Teaching Fellows. She is one of 34 promising, early-career high school mathematics and science teachers who received a 2015 KSTF Teaching Fellowship. She is committed to teaching biology to high school students in the United States and will begin her first year of teaching in the fall of 2015. Christine earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Gustavus Adolphus College and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2015.
KSTF seeks to improve STEM education by building a stable, sustainable cadre of networked leading teachers, who are trained and supported as leaders from the beginning of their careers. As a participant in the KSTF Teaching Fellows Program—the Foundation’s signature program—Christine will receive access to stipends, funds for professional development, grants for teaching materials, professional development and coaching from a staff of experienced teachers and teacher educators, support from a national network of mathematics and science teachers, and opportunities to take on leadership and mentoring within KSTF and beyond through a comprehensive five-year Fellowship. With an emphasis on inquiry and collaboration, the Teaching Fellows Program supports participants as they advance their teaching practice and student learning, while leading from the classroom.
