Harrison Blankenship ’13 is a Co-Founder at Uptown Woodworks in Minneapolis, MN. We design and create rustic wooden wall art. My roommate and I started a business around our hobby and passion for woodworking. We couldn’t find any artwork to hang in our apartment at the time so we thought “why not make it ourselves?”. At the same time, we were looking for a creative outlet and joined a maker’s space where you pay a membership fee to be a part of a shop. We started creating locally themed pieces that we had an emotional connection to and sharing them on our personal social accounts. Soon after we began getting requests for orders so we decided to start a business to make people’s requests. My roommate Garrett Faust who was a Tommie Engineering program grad is now doing UW full time.
