Michael Dorweiler, AICP ’85 is a Senior project manager at Dewberry, a privately held professional service firm, in Tampa, FL. Dorweiler is based in the firm’s Tampa, Florida, office and works closely with the firm’s Central Florida transportation groups, including Orlando. Dorweiler has been in the industry for more than 25 years and was hired by the firm to support the growing project development and environment (PD&E) and transportation planning practices in Tampa and Orlando. His expertise includes urban and regional planning, National Environmental Policy Act studies, traffic operations, multimodal planning, and congestion management and mitigation. Prior to joining Dewberry, Dorweiler worked for a transportation firm in Tampa, supporting transportation services across Florida and the southeast U.S. for state departments of transportation and local governments, including access management and safety studies. After earning a bachelor’s degree in history and geography from Gustavus Adophus College (1985), Dorweiler went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s of city planning with a concentration on community and regional planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology (1994). He is a member of the American Planning Association and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). Dorweiler is vice-chair of the Transportation Planning Council for the Florida Section of ITE and a board member of the Tampa Bay Transportation Applications Group. He recently gave a presentation titled, “Evaluation of High Crash Unsignalized Locations in FDOT District 7” at the Florida ITE summer meeting in June 2017.. New Hire.
