Brooklyn will soon get its first museum which will present the history of the Holocaust with special emphasis on the values and perspectives of religiously observant communities. The Amud Aish Memorial Museum is founded by Elly Kleinman, and it is scheduled to open somewhere between late 2016 and early 2017. The rebranded museum will include galleries to display artifacts, a research library and an interview room where survivors can record their histories. Currently, the New York City region is home of around 30,000 Holocaust survivors, and around 9,000 of those survivors live in Boro Park, which is where the new museum will be located. The museum will serve as a living memorial to all Holocaust victims, and will reveal collections, documents and artifacts which have been kept in the basements and attics of Orthodox Jews families for as long as 70 years.
