Dr. Alan Brew ’89 is the new executive director of the Sigurd Olson Institute Dr. Brew holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1999) as well as holding an M.A. from UNC, and a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College. Dr. Brew’s professional career can be characterized as centered on enhancing student learning through the dual lens of Nature and literature concerning Nature. This learning has not only been in the classroom, but in numerous student study trips in the BWCA, the American Southwest, and around Lake Superior. He understands and cares deeply for the rich legacy of Sigurd Olson and has served on the Sigurd F. Olson Writing Award Committee almost from the beginning of his career at Northland.
