Gustavus Highly Ranked for Study Abroad Participation

Gustavus has been ranked in the top 20 baccalaureate institutions in the Institute of International Education’s Open Doors report for the total number of students who study abroad. With 359 students studying abroad, Gustavus is one of six Minnesota higher education institutions ranked in the top 20.

Senior Jessie Doig from New Prague, Minn., has been selected by the NCAA to blog for NCAA.com. Doig is one of a select few athletes from Division I, II, and III to give an account of her experiences as a student-athlete. Her twice-a-week blog will run through the entire season and can be read here.

New football rushing record set

Senior running back Ray Wilson set a single-game rushing school record with 258 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns in the 34-31 win over Augsburg Oct. 25. Wilson broke the school record of 252 rushing yards set by Andy Traetow against Hamline on Oct. 26, 2002.

Nobel lectures online

Lectures from the 44th Nobel Conference, “Who Were the First Humans?,” Oct. 7-8, are now available online at Nobel Lectures.

Outstanding employees honored

Three Gustavus employees have been honored with service awards. The 2008 Augusta Carlson Schultz Award for the Outstanding Support Staff Employee was presented to Judy Waldhauser (admission); Virgil Jones (diversity development) received the 2008 Eric Norelius Award for the Outstanding Administrative Employee; and the 2008 Faculty Service Award was given to Florence Amamoto (English).

Nobel Conference endowment gift announced

Gustavus has received an endowment gift of $2 million from the Reverend Drell and Adeline Dekko Bernhardson, parents of four Gustavus graduates.
