May is Busy at Gustavus!

32nd Annual MAYDAY! Peace Conference will feature celebrated Swedish journalist and author Dilsa Demirbag-Sten and award-winning Swedish novelist and playwright Jonas Hassen Khemiri as keynotes on Wednesday, May 2.

Our Place, In Place is a series of four site- and theme-specific performances created in honor of the College’s Sesquicentennial and featuring more than 150 students and alumni, which will be performed on Wednesday, May 2, and Saturday, May 5.

Origin Story is a new play about learning to use art as a weapon against the curse of being born different. It runs May 3–6 at Anderson Theatre.

Books in Bloom 2012 is a unique Gustavus Library Associates event that highlights books, media, and other resource material through more than 25 floral arrangements and artistic expression. This event runs from 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 6.

Gustie Breakfasts will feature former President Dennis Johnson ’60 on campus on May 9, and at the Doubletree Hotel – Minneapolis Park Place on May 16.

Gustavus Library Associates Author Day welcomes Becky Fremo, professor of English, to lead a writer’s workshop about writing your memoir on Thursday, May 10.

Gustavus Women in Leadership Luncheon will focus on Gustavus’ Sesquicentennial, with special guest President Jack Ohle, on Friday, May 11.

Faculty and Administrator Service Awards dinner is on May 16 and will recognize retiring faculty and staff and those who have served the college for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years.

Spring Reunion Weekend welcomes back the Centennial Class of 1962, the Class of 1967, and members of the 50 Year Club on May 25–26.

The 2012 Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 26, and will recognize the winners of the Greater Gustavus Award, Distinguished Alumni Citations, and First Decade Awards.

Senior Week this year includes the Alumni Fiesta, Johnny Holm Band Concert, a trip to the Mall of America (with exclusive use of Nickelodeon Universe), Brunch on Beck, President’s Banquet, Tailgating at the Ohles’s, a Twins Game, and a Dive Dance.

Commencement is Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. on Hollingsworth Field.
