Twin Cities Gustie Breakfast – Matt Swenson ’06 on Aug. 21

Posted on August 6th, 2013 by

mattThe August Gustie Breakfast will feature Matt Swenson ’06, press secretary for Governor Mark Dayton. In his new role, Matt is responsible for managing media relations and serving as chief spokesperson for the Governor. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Matt was the Director of Communications for the Minnesota Department of Commerce, and also served as press secretary for the gubernatorial campaign of Margaret Anderson Kelliher ’90. He has also served as a member of the adjunct faculty at Concordia University in St. Paul. Matt says, “The values that were instilled in me during my time at Gustavus, the formative experiences in college that shaped my perspective of the world and my role in it, and my personal faith journey, have been the fuel and foundation of my life in public service. As Gusties, we are called to serve a cause greater than ourselves — we are called to serve a purpose… Without a Gustavus education, or more pointedly, without a Gustavus ‘experience,’ my life and my understanding of purpose may have been much different. Looking back, I know with certainty that without a Gustavus education, I would not be where I am, or who I am, today.” Come hear from Matt Swenson who will speak on how he is putting his passions, gifts, and Gustavus perspective to work to actively meet the world’s greatest needs.

This is your cousin Don Osell in Grand Rapids. Family matters limit my ability to travel or I would be at the Gustie breakfast. Last week I met with John K. (Kupris?) the alumni rep who covers northern Minnesota, perhaps even a larger area. I had a chance to get current on issues on the campus. I have great memories of my Gustavus years. You are gathering valuable experience in your various positions and we follow your progress with interest.
